Athletic, demanding stance, and uniqueness is the formula for the new hot-hatch offering from BMW, the all new 1 Series 3-door. The new 1 series 3 door hatch is unmistakably a BMW with its proportions and styling. The rear-drive system that BMW is well known for is what sets this 3 door hatch above other 3 door hatchback out on the market, a huge plus for true driving enthusiasts.

Exterior Design:

The design is unique featuring stretched doors with frame-less windows. A line that the flows from the mid-front quarter panels, past the hidden B-pillar, and into the C-pillar to add the width created by the wide hips remenecent of the beloved Z3 Coupe rear wheel arches.

Precise individualisation thanks to BMW Sport Line, BMW Urban Line and M Sport Package; Harmoniously matching, exclusive design and equipment features as an alternative to the basic variant; BMW M135i with model-specific exterior and interior design directly attuned to the technical requirements.

Interior Styling:

Interior styling benefits from a 1.2 in (30 mm) increase in wheelbase and a 3.35 in (85 mm) increase in body length. Front track width increased by 2 in (51mm), with the rear track increasing by roughly 2.8 in (72 mm) which translated to a modest .67 in (17mm) increase in body width as compared with old car. As a result, rear legroom increased by (21 mm), while trunk volume increase by 1ft^3 (30 liters) to 12.7ft^3 (360 liters). While that could be increase to 42.4 ft^3 (1200 liters) by folding the option rear seat backs that split 40:20:40. There is a choice of two rear-seat configurations, a split two seat option, or a three seat option.

Powertrain, many engine choices:

More engine choices for 1 Series 3 Door Hatch the European market including gasoline (petrol) and diesel engines.

  • Gasoline (petrol) engines available at launch:
    • The entry level 114i with the TwinPower Turbo technology producing 102 hp (75 kW).
    • The 116i producing 136 hp (100kW).
    • The 125i producing 218 hp (160 kW).
  • Diesel engine choices, also available at launch:
    • The 116d with 116 hp (85kW).
    • The 118d producing 143hp (105 kW).
    • While the 116d EfficientDynamics engine produces only 116 hp (85kW), but fuel efficiency is increased, and CO2 emmions levels are decreased to 99 g/km according to the EU test cycle.

The BMW M135i takes the athletic spotlight with 320 hp (235kW) from the N55 3.0L TwinPower Turbo engine, tuned similarly to the F82/F88 135is. This marks the first non diesler BMW M Performance automobile to feature a petrol engine.

M-tuned suspension components and aerodynamically functional exterior components to go along with aerodynamically optimized body features.

Driven by high performance, M inspired style and suspension, and turbo efficiency, the BMW M135i is what “S” perfromance models are to Audi. Standard rear-drive, with an available BMW xDrive all wheel drive, also offered on the five-door hatch model.
Fast forwared, starting Nov ’12, a 118i producing 170 hp (125kW), and deisel 120d producing 184 hp (135 kW).

A 6 speed manual transmission is standard on all models, while an 8 speed automatic transimmisoin is optional equipment. Both trannys come with BMW’s start-stop technologies and an Eco Pro mode function.

Chassis and suspension design and construction is similiar to the 3 Series in many ways, which is a good thing.  Expect the latest electronic assistance gizmos to be offered, such as the exceptionally precise-on electromechanical steering, with an optional sporty variable steering. DSC Dynamic Stability Control, DTC, and ADB (Active Differential Brake, with a sport function) are standard equipment.

Fitted with BMW’s signature cockpit controls, the new iDrive with hands-free access to popular social networking platforms.
