BMW announced today that an “s” version of the 135i E82 coupe and E88 convertible is arriving in showrooms this fall at US dealerships. Offering a 135is model comes as a surprise after the release of the 1 Series M Coupe not long ago.

The 135is Coupe and Convertible will be sold as 2013 models with an MSRP of $44,145 and $48,845 respectively, including $895 destination and handling. The 135is enhances an already proven and successful formula with more performance, improved dynamics, and sportier exhaust sound. Both versions of the 135is will be powered by the same N55 TwinPower Turbo (single twin scroll turbo) 3.0 liter inline 6 cylinder that powers the 135i with an additional 20 hp and 17 lb-ft of torque. Even with a total of 320 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, the car maintains the same MPG and emissions ratings as the base 135i.

The engine comes to life with the help of a performance exhaust system that provides a sporty exhaust note. A larger, more powerful radiator fan, and the addition of an auxiliary radiator ensures that enthusiasts will enjoy optimized turbo cooling on those hot track days. While sports suspension is standard “is” equipment.

The power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 6-Speed manual transmission or an optional 7-Speed Double Clutch Transmission. BMW’s electronic nannies, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) have been reprogrammed to offer less intervention at the limit for a better spirited driving experience. The rear differential features double-helical ball bearings and optimized efficiency that uses less fluid for a lower operating temperature.

While the 135is will not be equipped with an M Variable Differential Lock, an advanced rear brake management system is used to “help” the car accelerate out of tight corners.

On the outside, the 135is Coupe and Convertible will feature M Sport Package parts, exclusive 18″ wheels, blacked out kidney grill, blacked out mirror caps, and exterior badges.

The interior features stainless steel pedals, badging, and a special optional blue stitching for the black standard sport leather seats.
BMW is currently taking order for the 135is Coupe and Convertible now, for deliveries and availability this upcoming fall.
