BMW’s flagship sedan receives a facelift treatment for 2013. Newly upgraded engine choices include including BMW’s 3-liter inline 6 TwinPower Turbo diesel engine and the 2nd-gen BMW ActivHybrid 7 power-plant, among others. An eight speed automatic transmission is now standard equipment on all models. Auto Start-Stop, Brake Energy Regeneration, and Driving Dynamics Control with ECO PRO expands on the fuel savings.

Exterior, features updated full-LED headlights separated by a reconfigured grill featuring 9 lots instead of the prior 12, and a redesigned front bumper apron. Additional changes to the new 2013 E65 BMW 7 Series include signal lights integrated within the side mirrors, and a chrome strip connecting the reflectors on the rear bumper apron.

Interior sports redesigned front driver and passenger leather seats, while rear passengers enjoy a quieter ride thanks to upgraded sound deadening material. Split rear seats loaded with comfort options are available for those wanting to be chauffeured around in luxury. Optional for rear passengers are new 9.2 inch flat-screens with the rear seat entertainment package. As well as a newly developed 16-speaker 1200 watt Bang & Olufsen surround stereo system with an illuminated pop-up center speaker. The cockpit of the 2013 7 Series features a 10.25 inch instrument panel utilizing extended black-panel technology. The instruments cluster is fully digital, displaying different high resolution 3D graphics and colors depending on the driving mode selection.

Powertrain improvements: The 6-liter Bi-turbo V12 is still the flagship power-plant. Valvetronic, throttle-less intake system, and direct-injection are now integrated with the 750i and 750Li increasing power delivery to 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque out of the 4.4-liter TwinTurbo V8 that now mated to an 8 speed Steptronic automatic transmission. That’s a 45 horsepower and 30 lb-ft of torque increase from the 2012 model. While fuel efficiency is improved by 25 percent on the EU test cycle, while delivering a 0-60 sprint in a quick 4.7 seconds.

The 740i and 740iL utilizes a 3-liter twin-scroll turbo inline-6 cylinder, codenamed N55, delivers 315 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. Similar engine technology and transmission is used as in the 750i. Efficiency is up by 20 percent on the EU test cycle, EPA estimate is not yet available for this configuration. Seamless Start/Stop technology is used on both models to further increase fuel efficiency. BMW’s XDrive all wheel drive system is now available on this “entry level” 7 Series.

ActiveHybrid 7 ,long wheel base, now takes advantage of the inline 6 cylinder from the 740Li instead of the previous V8, paired with a 55 hp electric motor. Together delivery 349 hp and 367 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration to 60 mph is reached in an impressive 5.5 seconds while delivering 14 percent better fuel efficiency than the new 2013 740Li. The BMW ActiveHyrbid 7 is able to run on battery power alone up to 2.5 miles, reaching 37 mph max speed.

Rear self leveling air suspension makes long commutes more relaxing. While BMW Connected Drive system uses an advances navigation system, night vision with dynamic light spot, anti-dazzle LED high beam assistant, driver assistant plus, and active protection.
