Back in May 2012 we predicted that BMW will release an M6 Gran Coupe in the article titled ”Will BMW make a sedan 6 Series M6 Gran Coupe?
Sure enough, the world debut of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe was today.
The BMW M6 Gran Coupe will be powered by the same engine as the M6. A High-revving 4.4-litre V8 engine equipped with twin scroll bi-turbo technology with innovative positioning of the exhaust banks, turbos and all, between the engine’s V-shape. Along with Valvetronic variable valve timing and direct injection, revving all the way up to 7200 RPM. Peak power is at 560 hp (412 kW) between 5750 to 7000 rpm with 500 lb-ft (680 Nm) from as low as 1500 to 5750 rpm. Compared to the previous V10 M6 motor, fuel economy is improved by 30%, especially with the use of a fully defeatable (luckily) engine Auto Start Stop technology.

Channeling all of that power to the rear wheels is a 7-speed M-DCT transmission with paddle shifters. Rear wheels will benefit from a standard Active M-Differential Essentially a limited slip diff which channels the power to the tires with the most traction.

Expect 60 miles per hour to come in a quick 4.1 seconds. However, if the F10 M5 is any testament to BMW’s recent underrating of their vehicle’s performance figures, expect real world 0-60 mph to be in the high 3 seconds range. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. To help stop this monster, an optional M Carbon-Ceramic brake system is available to order. Carbon Ceramic brakes can be identified with gold painted calipers, as compared with the current blue painted calipers on the M5 and M6.

Numerous items are borrowed from the M6 Coupe. Exterior of the M6 Gran coupe features include M badged gills, M designed side mirrors, unique M light allow 20″ rims, double twin exhaust tips as in the M6 Coupe, and a functional carbon fiber bumper diffuser.

One of the hottest feature is the carbon fiber reinforced plastic roof structure. Featuring a “double bubble”, allowing for more headroom while providing optimal rigidity. A previously unique feature to the E63 M6 Coupe and E92 M3 Coupe. Warning: Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG here comes BMW to take away some of your customer base.
