A comparison between two M family flagships, the 2013 BMW M6 Coupe vs 2013 BMW M5 Sedan. Two very similar cars at heart, one in coupe form with seating for 4, while the second come with 4 doors with seating for 5.

Both cars are equipped with a relatively high-revving 4.4-litre V8 engine with TwinPower Turbo technology that features cross bank exhaust manifolds, direct injection, and Valvetronic, a completely variable valve timing system. The engine in both cars has the same 560 hp @ mid 6000 RPM, with 502 lb-ft of torque available anywhere from 1500 RPM to 7200 RPM. The comparisons vehicles are both sporting the new 7-speed M-DCT transmission with paddle shifters and launch control. Power is sent to the rear wheel through an active M-differential limited slip differential, for optimum traction.

Weighing in at 4170 lbs, the F12 BMW M6 has a 130 lb weight advantage over the 4300 lbs F10 BMW F5. The M5 is a bargain at $89,900, compared with the M6 that starts at $106,100. The M6 has always foreshadowed the iconic M5 since its initial release in the mid nineteen eighties. Is the 2013 M6 better than the M5 this time around?
