BMW is set to make history producing the company’s first ever front wheel drive car. The BMW 1-Series Gt takes advantage of available Mini technology, being dubbed as the F56 internally. The GT is set for an introduction at the Paris Auto Shows next month.

Dumping the rear drive system lends many advantages. Other than giving BMW a production cost advantage on upfront development and production line. It gives the already small 1 Series segment more storage and passenger space. Directly targeting competitors like the Audi A3 and the Mercedes-Benz A Class. Background: GT badged vehicles from BMW take the form of a cross over, similar to the 5 Series GT.

Even though it’s early to speculate which power-trains will power the GT, a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter with a twin scroll turbo is most likely in Europe. While the now familiar N20 inline 4-cylinder Twin Power Turbo will most likely be an optional engine choice for future US-bound the 128i GT.

Numerous spy shots helped the Italian website Quattroroute.it shape the rendering images that you see of the front drive BMW 1 Series GT.
